Fall in Germany

Wednesday, October 30, 2019

Last October in Germany was like a jewel--all golden-tinged colors and brilliant skies. We were there for a conference and couldn't stop pinching ourselves. It was Ryan's first time abroad, so it was exciting to watch him experience the beauty of Europe. Luckily for both of us, he took (and remembered) a good bit of German in undergrad, so navigating Germany wasn't as difficult as it might have been.

We flew into Stuttgart before heading to the Black Forest for several days...having only seen English hills and the French countryside before, I was unprepared for the lush and sprawling wild beauty of Southern Germany. We stayed at the top of a huge hill in a valley and woke every morning feeling like we'd escaped to the Misty Mountains. Russet, gold, and deep green trees stretched endlessly on each side of the valley, rising up into the deep blue sky.

Between the colors, fresh air, winding brooks and cheery cottages, it felt like something out of a storybook.
